And¹¹⁶¹ after³³²⁶ five⁴⁰⁰² days²²⁵⁰ Ananias³⁶⁷ the high priest⁷⁴⁹ descended²⁵⁹⁷ with³³²⁶ the elders⁴²⁴⁵, and²⁵³² with a certain⁵¹⁰⁰ orator⁴⁴⁸⁹ named Tertullus⁵⁰⁶¹, who³⁷⁴⁸ informed¹⁷¹⁸ the governor²²³² against²⁵⁹⁶ Paul³⁹⁷².

And¹¹⁶¹ when he⁸⁴⁶ was called forth²⁵⁶⁴, Tertullus⁵⁰⁶¹ began⁷⁵⁶ to accuse²⁷²³ him, saying³⁰⁰⁴, Seeing that by¹²²³ thee⁴⁶⁷⁵ we enjoy⁵¹⁷⁷ great⁴¹⁸³ quietness¹⁵¹⁵, and²⁵³² that very worthy deeds²⁷³⁵ are done¹⁰⁹⁶ unto this⁵¹²⁹ nation¹⁴⁸⁴ by¹²²³ thy⁴⁶⁷⁴ providence⁴³⁰⁷,

We accept⁵⁸⁸ it always³⁸³⁹, and²⁵³² in all places³⁸³⁷, most noble²⁹⁰³ Felix⁵³⁴⁴, with³³²⁶ all³⁹⁵⁶ thankfulness²¹⁶⁹.

Notwithstanding¹¹⁶¹, that³³⁶³ I be⁴¹¹⁹ not³³⁶³ further⁴¹¹⁹ tedious¹⁴⁶⁵ unto thee⁴⁵⁷¹, I pray³⁸⁷⁰ thee⁴⁵⁷¹ that thou wouldest hear¹⁹¹ us²²⁵⁷ of thy⁴⁶⁷⁴ clemency¹⁹³² a few words⁴⁹³⁵.

For¹⁰⁶³ we have found²¹⁴⁷ this⁵¹²⁶ man⁴³⁵ a pestilent³⁰⁶¹ fellow, and²⁵³² a mover²⁷⁹⁵ of sedition⁴⁷¹⁴ among all³⁹⁵⁶ the Jews²⁴⁵³ throughout²⁵⁹⁶ the world³⁶²⁵, and⁵⁰³⁷ a ringleader⁴⁴¹⁴ of the sect¹³⁹ of the Nazarenes³⁴⁸⁰:

Who³⁷³⁹ also²⁵³² hath gone about³⁹⁸⁵ to profane⁹⁵³ the temple²⁴¹¹ :²⁵³² whom³⁷³⁹ we took²⁹⁰², and²⁵³² would²³⁰⁹ have judged²⁹¹⁹ according²⁵⁹⁶ to our²²⁵¹ law³⁵⁵¹.

But¹¹⁶¹ the chief captain⁵⁵⁰⁶ Lysias³⁰⁷⁹ came³⁹²⁸ upon us, and with³³²⁶ great⁴¹⁸³ violence⁹⁷⁰ took him away⁵²⁰ out of¹⁵³⁷ our²²⁵⁷ hands⁵⁴⁹⁵,

Commanding²⁷⁵³ his⁸⁴⁶ accusers²⁷²⁵ to come²⁰⁶⁴ unto¹⁹⁰⁹ thee⁴⁵⁷¹: by examining³⁵⁰ of³⁸⁴⁴ whom³⁷³⁹ thyself⁸⁴⁶ mayest¹⁴¹⁰ take knowledge¹⁹²¹ of⁴⁰¹² all³⁹⁵⁶ these things⁵¹³⁰, whereof³⁷³⁹ we²²⁴⁹ accuse²⁷²³ him⁸⁴⁶.

And¹¹⁶¹ the Jews²⁴⁵³ also²⁵³² assented⁴⁹³⁴, saying⁵³³⁵ that these things⁵⁰²³ were²¹⁹² so³⁷⁷⁹.

Then¹¹⁶¹ Paul³⁹⁷², after that the governor²²³² had beckoned³⁵⁰⁶ unto him⁸⁴⁶ to speak³⁰⁰⁴, answered⁶¹¹, Forasmuch as I know¹⁹⁸⁷ that thou⁴⁵⁷¹ hast been⁵⁶⁰⁷ of¹⁵³⁷ many⁴¹⁸³ years²⁰⁹⁴ a judge²⁹²³ unto this⁵¹²⁹ nation¹⁴⁸⁴, I do⁶²⁶ the more cheerfully²¹¹⁵ answer⁶²⁶ for⁴⁰¹² myself¹⁶⁸³:

Because that thou⁴⁶⁷⁵ mayest¹⁴¹⁰ understand¹⁰⁹⁷, that³⁷⁵⁴ there are¹⁵²⁶ yet but²²²⁸ twelve¹¹⁷⁷ days²²⁵⁰ since⁵⁷⁵ I³⁴²⁷ went up³⁰⁵ to¹⁷²² Jerusalem²⁴¹⁹ for to worship⁴³⁵².

And²⁵³² they neither³⁷⁷⁷ found²¹⁴⁷ me³¹⁶⁵ in¹⁷²² the temple²⁴¹¹ disputing¹²⁵⁶ with⁴³¹⁴ any man⁵¹⁰⁰, neither²²²⁸ raising up¹⁹⁹⁹ the people³⁷⁹³, neither³⁷⁷⁷ in¹⁷²² the synagogues⁴⁸⁶⁴, nor³⁷⁷⁷ in²⁵⁹⁶ the city⁴¹⁷²:

Neither³⁷⁷⁷ can¹⁴¹⁰ they prove³⁹³⁶ the things⁴⁰¹² whereof³⁷³⁹ they²⁷²³ now³⁵⁶⁸ accuse²⁷²³ me³⁴⁵⁰.

But¹¹⁶¹ this⁵¹²⁴ I confess³⁶⁷⁰ unto thee⁴⁶⁷¹, that³⁷⁵⁴ after²⁵⁹⁶ the way³⁵⁹⁸ which³⁷³⁹ they call³⁰⁰⁴ heresy¹³⁹, so³⁷⁷⁹ worship I³⁰⁰⁰ the Elohim²³¹⁶ of my fathers³⁹⁷¹, believing⁴¹⁰⁰ all things³⁹⁵⁶ which³⁵⁸⁸ are written¹¹²⁵ in²⁵⁹⁶ the law³⁵⁵¹ and²⁵³² in¹⁷²² the prophets⁴³⁹⁶:

And have²¹⁹² hope¹⁶⁸⁰ toward¹⁵¹⁹ Elohim²³¹⁶, which³⁷³⁹ they³⁷⁷⁸ themselves⁸⁴⁶ also²⁵³² allow⁴³²⁷, that there shall be³¹⁹⁵ a resurrection³⁸⁶ of the dead³⁴⁹⁸, both⁵⁰³⁷ of the just¹³⁴² and²⁵³² unjust⁹⁴.

And¹¹⁶¹ herein¹⁷²² do I exercise⁷⁷⁸ myself⁸⁴⁶, to have²¹⁹² always¹²⁷⁵ a conscience⁴⁸⁹³ void of offence⁶⁷⁷ toward⁴³¹⁴ Elohim²³¹⁶, and²⁵³² toward men⁴⁴⁴.

Now¹¹⁶¹ after¹²²³ many⁴¹¹⁹ years²⁰⁹⁴ I came³⁸⁵⁴ to bring⁴¹⁶⁰ alms¹⁶⁵⁴ to¹⁵¹⁹ my³⁴⁵⁰ nation¹⁴⁸⁴, and²⁵³² offerings⁴³⁷⁶.

Whereupon¹⁷²² certain⁵¹⁰⁰ Jews²⁴⁵³ from⁵⁷⁵ Asia⁷⁷³ found²¹⁴⁷ me³¹⁶⁵ purified⁴⁸ in¹⁷²² the temple²⁴¹¹, neither³⁷⁵⁶ with³³²⁶ multitude³⁷⁹³, nor³⁷⁶¹ with³³²⁶ tumult²³⁵¹.

Who³⁷³⁹ ought¹¹⁶³ to have been here³⁹¹⁸ before¹⁹⁰⁹ thee⁴⁶⁷⁵, and²⁵³² object²⁷²³, if¹⁵³⁶ they had²¹⁹² ought¹⁵³⁶ against⁴³¹⁴ me³¹⁶⁵.

Or else²²²⁸ let²⁰³⁶ these⁸⁴⁶ same³⁷⁷⁸ here say²⁰³⁶, if¹⁵³⁶ they have found²¹⁴⁷ any¹⁵³⁶ evil doing⁹² in¹⁷²² me¹⁶⁹⁸, while I³⁴⁵⁰ stood²⁴⁷⁶ before¹⁹⁰⁹ the council⁴⁸⁹²,

Except²²²⁸ it be for⁴⁰¹² this⁵⁰²⁶ one³³⁹¹ voice⁵⁴⁵⁶, that³⁷³⁹ I cried²⁸⁹⁶ standing²⁴⁷⁶ among¹⁷²² them⁸⁴⁶, Touching³⁷⁵⁴ the resurrection³⁸⁶ of the dead³⁴⁹⁸ I¹⁴⁷³ am called in question²⁹¹⁹ by⁵²⁵⁹ you⁵²¹⁶ this day⁴⁵⁹⁴.

And¹¹⁶¹ when Felix⁵³⁴⁴ heard¹⁹¹ these things⁵⁰²³, having more perfect¹⁹⁷ knowledge¹⁴⁹² of⁴⁰¹² that way³⁵⁹⁸, he deferred³⁰⁶ them⁸⁴⁶, and said²⁰³⁶, When³⁷⁵² Lysias³⁰⁷⁹ the chief captain⁵⁵⁰⁶ shall come down²⁵⁹⁷, I will know the uttermost¹²³¹ of your⁵²⁰⁹ matter²⁵⁹⁶.

And⁵⁰³⁷ he commanded¹²⁹⁹ a centurion¹⁵⁴³ to keep⁵⁰⁸³ Paul³⁹⁷², and⁵⁰³⁷ to let him have²¹⁹² liberty⁴²⁵, and²⁵³² that he should forbid²⁹⁶⁷ none³³⁶⁷ of his⁸⁴⁶ acquaintance²³⁹⁸ to minister⁵²⁵⁶ or²²²⁸ come⁴³³⁴ unto him⁸⁴⁶.

And¹¹⁶¹ after³³²⁶ certain⁵¹⁰⁰ days²²⁵⁰, when Felix⁵³⁴⁴ came³⁸⁵⁴ with⁴⁸⁶² his⁸⁴⁶ wife¹¹³⁵ Drusilla¹⁴⁰⁹, which was⁵⁶⁰⁷ a Jewess²⁴⁵³, he sent for³³⁴³ Paul³⁹⁷², and²⁵³² heard¹⁹¹ him⁸⁴⁶ concerning⁴⁰¹² the faith⁴¹⁰² in¹⁵¹⁹ Messiah⁵⁵⁴⁷.

And¹¹⁶¹ as he⁸⁴⁶ reasoned¹²⁵⁶ of⁴⁰¹² righteousness¹³⁴³, temperance²⁵³², and²⁵³² judgment²⁹¹⁷ to come³¹⁹⁵, Felix⁵³⁴⁴ trembled¹⁰⁹⁶, and answered⁶¹¹, Go thy way⁴¹⁹⁸ for this time³⁵⁶⁸; when¹¹⁶¹ I have²¹⁹² a convenient season²⁵⁴⁰, I will call for³³³³ thee⁴⁵⁷¹.

He hoped¹⁶⁷⁹ also²⁶⁰ that³⁷⁵⁴ money⁵⁵³⁶ should have been given¹³²⁵ him⁸⁴⁶ of⁵²⁵⁹ Paul³⁹⁷², that³⁷⁰⁴ he might loose³⁰⁸⁹ him⁸⁴⁶: wherefore¹³⁵² he sent for³³⁴³ him⁸⁴⁶ the oftener⁴⁴³⁷, and²⁵³² communed with³⁶⁵⁶ him⁸⁴⁶.

But¹¹⁶¹ after⁴¹³⁷ two years¹³³³ Porcius⁴²⁰¹ Festus⁵³⁴⁷ came²⁹⁸³ into Felix'⁵³⁴⁴ room¹²⁴⁰: and⁵⁰³⁷ Felix⁵³⁴⁴, willing²³⁰⁹ to shew²⁶⁹⁸ the Jews²⁴⁵³ a pleasure⁵⁴⁸⁵, left²⁶⁴¹ Paul³⁹⁷² bound¹²¹⁰.
